The Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie 2015

« coup de cœur »
Team in the Grand Défi
Pierre Lavoie

Our region is undergoing a population explosion and many young families have settled here. In our local public sector, we have 33 elementary schools, soon to be 34, and 5 high schools, including 11 English schools overall. The aim of our commitment to the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie is firstly to persuade all local schools to participate in the “Get Up and Move Challenge,” which for the Francophone sector would represent a 30% increase in the number of schools compared to last year or 2,500 students enrolled, and for the Anglophone sector an 89% increase, or nearly 3,000 students.

We are committed to sponsoring schools that have never participated in the “Get Up and Move Challenge,” targeting both Francophone and Anglophone sectors.

As ambassadors, we decided to set up five major events to influence our residents to adopt healthy life habits.

5 events

  1. Health is our priority for 2015!

Since December 2014, registration has been open at Centre Multisports to participate in a special bike training program in preparation for the 135 km ride in June. Indoor training groups for La Grande Boucle will start on January 5. Our mandate is to attract sedentary individuals to take up the cycling challenge.

  2. Link Art with Sport!

Our support person, motor mechanic, driver and team member will launch a drawing contest in local elementary schools in January to create an image of a healthy Vaudreuil-Soulanges life habits. This image will become the team's logo and will be displayed on team clothing, vehicle and promotional tools on our promotional tour.

  3. An inspiring conference!

On March 18, Pierre Lavoie will make a presentation to the community. This prestigious event will host VIP guests for a fundraising cocktail on behalf of our sponsored schools. At the prestigious event, the winning design symbolizing healthy life habits will be presented.

  4. 1,000 hours of biking for teens!

On May 9, 1,000 teenagers from our 5 high schools will mobilize to ride 1,000 hours on 100 stationary bikes to promote healthy life habits. This event will also be a great family festival because little brothers and sisters, parents and families can contribute to raising energy cubes by moving to our DJs’ rhythms.

  5. 1,000 riders for La Grande Boucle des Trois-Lacs 2015

The highlight of our involvement will take place on June 21 with the 2nd year of the Grande Boucle des Trois-Lacs. Our goal is to double the number of cyclists compared to last year, so 1,000 cyclists will be in the saddle at this major event devoted to delivering bikes to kids in need..

All these events will receive extensive media coverage so as to motivate all residents to integrate physical activity and healthy eating into their busy lives.

We are confident that we can influence people to change their life habits. That’s why we want to be your “Dream Team” in 2015. You can be sure that we’ll come out of our comfort zone because we’ll be doing everything to inspire people to success. Together, we can do it. We know that we’ll have to put up with some pain, but everyone will share the task and we’ll come out of it even stronger in 2015!

We are committed to sponsoring schools that have never participated in the “Get Up and Move Challenge” targeting both Francophone and Anglophone sectors.

1,000 km

A spectacular cycling marathon

Each year, more and more cyclists want to take part and places are snapped up fast. The 1000-km event attracts over 200 teams. These 1,000 cyclists are ambassadors for healthy lifestyles in their communities. As always, Pierre Lavoie will lead the pack all the way, while teams of 4 or 5 riders will each take turns behind him.

A renowned sports event
that gets the whole province involved

The mandate of our Dream Team in 2015 is to influence the community to become more physically active through various events and activities. Funds raised in the coming months will be donated to 5 sponsored schools in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges area.

An event that brings hope

The Grand défi Pierre Lavoie distributes over $2 million promoting healthy lifestyles among young people and supporting research on orphan inherited diseases through the bursary and grants program of the Fondation du Grand défi Pierre Lavoie and the school sponsorship program by the 1000-km teams.

Kudos to school sponsorships!

Participants in the 1000-km event raise over $1.4 million annually through school sponsorships. Each team of cyclists is asked to link up with one or more elementary schools and encourage them to enroll in Get Up And Move contests. We Are Vaudreuill-Soulanges will be sponsoring 5 schools—3 Francophone and 2 Anglophone. The schools selected are: École des Orioles in Saint-Zotique, École de l’Épervière in Rigaud and École François-Perrot in Île Perrot, in the Francophone sector, and on the Anglophone side, Mount Pleasant Elementary School in Hudson and Soulanges Elementary School in Saint-Télesphore. In return, the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie will distribute to sponsored schools the surplus arising from donations raised by the team.
